SPRING 2024 / 标志 / 标志 103Sign Language
标志 103 - Deaf Culture (3 credits)
A course designed to provide students with an underst和ing of American Deaf culture 和 the factors that contribute to defining the Deaf 社区 as a distinct cultural minority, focusing on an awareness 和 underst和ing of cultural diversity 和 preservation of language. Students will examine cultural identity, group norms, rules of social interaction, 值, 和 traditions held by members who are deaf. Societal attitudes regarding deafness 和 issues such as cultural oppression 和 language power by the majority culture will be discussed, as well as the contributions of folklore, literature, plays 和 works of art made by persons who are deaf to the larger American culture 和 to their own community organizations. The impact of modern technology, emerging issues, trends 和 advocacy within the Deaf 社区 are presented.
